PUCKER UP FOR THE SONG OF THE WEEK

Punks singing about love; it’s always hilarious. They have a tendency to berate moral foundations and social norms but then they sing about love in a way parents might like. I know this from experience. Here is a sappy, seemingly 80’s pop (mostly on the chorus) influenced song from The Lemonheads 1987 debut LP, “Hate Your Friends.” You will never find it at a record store. Ever. Probably. If you do though, I’d like a birthday gift. It is a Ben Deily song, delivered in his annoying nasal punk urgency. He would leave the band before they courted the mainstream on “It’s a Shame about Ray.” Thanks to Wikipedia, I found out that Evan Dando (the only current original member and consistent song writer) was once on People’s 50 most beautiful people list around 92′-93′. Nice. “Hate Your Friends” kicks ass and almost falls apart at the same time. Definitely worth a rock through. I’m a The Lemonheads fan for EVER.
